It's All about The Kids

It's All About The KidsIt's All About The Kids

You relocate overseas for the sun and the good weather and the brilliant business opportunities it affords but your big concern is how you are going to educate your kids. It’s fine when they are small, their minds are like sponges and they can learn from anyone, but as they start to get a little older and a little wiser you have to think about getting them a western education that is going to allow them to compete with their counterparts back home in the big wide world.

In Bali and Thailand, there are many great international schools, small and big, that can actually give your child an advantage over schools back home. Advantages such as smaller teacher student ratios, better facilities, exposure to many different cultures, a stronger community and school spirit and of course the fact that
your child is living and growing up in a sun-filled paradise. This can only be good for anyone.

Bali International School (BIS) has a rich and proud history dating back to humble origins in 1986 when a few of the early expat Bali parents got together to take matters into their own hands with a founding roll of eight primary school kids. The school grew quickly and in 1992 there were over 150 elementary school children from 26 countries. Demand grew for enrolments and a wider range of grades and this was made possible by the school adopting the International Baccalaureate system. Over the years it slowly expanded to include grades 7 and 8 in 1995, grade 9 in 1996, grade 10 in 1997, and in 2003 the school was fully able to teach right up to grade 12, meaning kids no longer had to go abroad to finish high school.

Today the school’s roll has blossomed to 330 with a strong tradition of academic excellence, sports, and cultural facilities to rival that of any of overseas school and a close feeling of community for not only the students and teachers but for their families as well.

The school’s director, Chris Akin, has been teaching for a long time and has traveled the world with his work so he knows full well both the difficulties and advantages of overseas schooling. He is also a parent himself so understands what it means to feel that your children are being taken care of when living abroad and he believes that the educational and developmental well-being of the children comes first.

The school realizes that each child has his or her own personality type and way of learning and this is encouraged by integrating innovative methodologies leading to effective communication, creative thinking, critical reasoning and enthusiastic learning; ultimately turning out free thinking, upstanding individuals well equipped to contribute to the world and make a difference. In the words of Chris Akin, “It’s all about the kids.” And that’s all it ever should be about.
